Santa Monica Firefighter Johnny Maccini successfully completes his one-year test at the city yard. Maccini is now a sworn Santa Monica firefighters, after completing a one-year probation period. Maccini was tested on belay lines, laying hose and laddering in front of senior firefighters during the stress-filled one-year test.

A kitchen fire erupts at Shutters at the Beach Hotel on  September 24, 2005. Firemen break through the restaurants roof with axes and chain saws. No injuries were reported.
