During the Law enforcement recognition dinner at the Elks Lodge No 906 on Thursday, Virginia Obenchain,  (pictured with SMPD Chief James T. Butts Jr.) Santa Monica Police Department homicide detective wins the 2005 Santa Monica Elks  - Law Enforcement officer of the year. Obenchain has been  with the department since 1984.

The Scarring Letter: A 12 year old holds a sign that reads' "I Lie and Steal, Please Pray For Me: That I grow to be a better man than the selfish child I am today." He had to hold this sign as punishment for lying to his mother. His brother, Michael stands near as Santa Monica Police Officer Barbiera investigates. It was his older brother Michaels idea for Taylor to hold this sign at the pier
