Ed Kolpin Sr., 95, owner of the Tinderbox in Santa Monica, lights up a bowl of Algerian tobacco in his custom built 'Bing Crosby' pipe. Ed made 16 pipes for Bing Crosby, a customer and friend. The Tinderbox is celebrating its 79 th year in business. The Tinder Box in Santa Monica is the original Tinder Box store, and also known as Ed's Pipe Shop.

Jacqueline Jones, Santa Monica Police Department Jailor, retires after 31 years. Chief James Butts (left) and retired SMPD Chief James Keane, give an award to Jones during her retirement luncheon party on Thursday January 19, 2005. About 200 of her colleagues attended the event and she received a standing ovation from all. "I Know its time to retire when inmates say, 'My grandfather said to say high.' " Jones said during her retirement speech at the luncheon.
