Emergency vehicles will now be able to drive onto the pier: Crane operator Keith Stipke, with the assistance of Dave Little (center) and Ray Hilbert, directs a bundle of beams onto the Santa Monica Pier. The work is part of an overhaul project intended to double the strength of the pier, making the entire length of it accessible to emergency vehicles. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Walk for a cure

The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Research Foundation held its "5K Walk to Cure Diabetes" on Sunday October 23, 2005 starting  in Santa Monica beach. There was a huge turnout, thousands of walkers participated in the walk.

Pet Squirrel

Debbie Coffman takes her five year old pet Squirrel  Nummies out for a walk on Sunday. Coffman rescued this squirrel when it wondered up to her home in near death condition. She nursed him back to health.

Santa Monica SWAT

Santa Monica Police Department SWAT team members keep an eye on an unidentified man who stationed himself atop an office building on Pico Boulevard for much of the day Thursday, October 21, 2005. The man eventually climbed down to safety unharmed.Pico Boulevard was closed between Dorchesster and 31st for about 6 hours. He kept yelling,"They are trying to kill me. I don't want to die. Call LAPD, God is on my side."
