Kids compete in the pie eating contest

The Police Activities League's PALloween was held at Barker Hanger on Monday night. A large number of kids attended the fun filled event. The Highlight was the costume and pie eating contest. PALloween is attended to provide a safe environment for kids on Halloween.

(1) Seven year old student from Edison Language Academy, Sandra English and her mother Vickie Nunez, perform 'La Llorana' during the "Day of the Dead' festival on Saturday, October 29. (2) Sandra English shows her mother  the sugar skull which she made in class  for the alter.  (3) Claudia Vizcarra places a paper butterfly with the name of a loved dead one onto the tree to be honored and remembered. (4) Traci Wallace, an Edison parent, places a 'Calacast' onto one of the many colorful alters.

'Masters of Horrors'  Kicks of this weekend on Showtime - 13 original one-hour movies:  Don Coscarelli, director of the movie, 'Incident on-and-off-a Mountain Road' - kicks off  the movie series  that begins this weekend on Showtime and continues for the next 13 weeks. Don discusses the screening of his movie with (Co-star of Incident) actor Angus Scrimm, AKA 'The Tall Man' (famous from the old cult hit movie 'Phantasm' by Coscarelli) at the Ye old Kings Head, after the screening of his movie on Thurday October 27. The screening was held at the Ocean Screening Room in Santa Monica and a party afterwards was held at the Ye Old Kings Head. About 50 of Coscarelli's guest attended the screening and party afterwards.

The Ameriquet Soaring Dreams Airship was spotted overshead on Friday. More than 5,000 children in afterschool programs and hospitals teamed up to create the airborne art as a symbel of hope, dreams and achievements.

Pumpkin run

Angel Hilton carries five pumpkins at the '$5.00 All You Can Carry Pumpkin Patch' that was held on Wednesday at the Santa Monica farmers market. The record was six pumpkins; one between the legs, one held from teath, and four carried in the arms.

Training Coordinator for Santa Monica's Big Blue bus line, Melvin Stanley (left) puts tape on the ground to test the motor coach trainee Allan Miro (standing) in making right turns during the Skill Test that was being held on Tuesday, October 25 at Santa Monica beach. This is the fourth week of training that is part of a six week coarse. After successfully completing this test, trainees will be permitted to drive in the city with passengers, (under a line instructors supervision) for the final two weeks of  the training coarse. This is Class # 35.
