David Dade, 6, sprays water onto the ‘Watershed Diorama’ on Saturday at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, as part of the Earth Day-Ocean Pollution Workshop. The diorama, which was custom made for Heal the Bay by Andrew C.Aguilar, is designed for pollution education and to illustrate stormwater runoff. Dade gives it a spritz under the watchful eyes of Vicki Wawerchak, the aquarium’s director, and Heal the Bay volunteer David Lloyd.

A visit to the LA Zoo

On Friday,  April 21, 2006,  just 24 miles from Santa Monica, the animals were out at the Los Angeles Zoo . The Los Angeles Zoo is  open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. Entry fee for adults is $10.00 and $5.00 children. Parking is free. The Los Angeles Zoo is located at 5333 Zoo Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Bill Figueroa, 55, a transportation mechanic for Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, fills up a bus with 'natural gas.' The bus can hold about 210 gallons and can travel up to 300 miles on a tank full. Natural gas is  cooled down to a minus 260 degrees to become liquid. Special precautions must be made to avoid skin contact that can result in severe burns.
