Kelly Bailey, a Veterinarian Tech for Hill's, weighs Celia Evans' three-year-old Brindle Terrier 'Roxy' at the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 during a promotion. Roxy weighed in at 48.8 pounds. Bailey checks Roxy's body condition by feeling for her ribs, checking her waist line and looking for a tuck tummy. Roxy past all the test and is determined to be fit.

SMFD's Fire Training Academy






Seven Santa Monica Fire Department recruits go through a 'Hot Drill' on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 at the Fire Training Academy. The recruits go through an intense one year training program consisting of 2 months at the academy and 10 months in the field before becoming official firefighters.

PAL training

A dozen kids from Santa Monica Police Activity League (PAL) peddle down the Santa Monica Pier on Tuesday while training for the Acura L.A. Marathon Bike Tour XIII. The bike tour will be on March 4, 2007, starting before the LA Marathon. After the cyclers start, the runners will fallow.
