Members of FOCA (Fellows of Contemporary Art) take a tour of the 'Strange New World: Art and Design from Tijuana' at the Santa Monica Museum of Art in the Bergamot Station on Saturday, March 3, 2007. The show runs through April 7, 2007.  The museum is part of Bergamot Station, a historic train station transformed into a dynamic and lively arts complex unique in Los Angeles. Bergamot Station houses 33 galleries, 10 shops, and a cafe. Parking is plentiful and FREE at all times. All facilities are wheelchair accessible.  Strange New World: Art and Design from Tijuanais the first major traveling exhibition to explore and celebrate the vibrant interdisciplinary art scene in Tijuana, Mexico, one of the worlds leading crucibles of cultural innovation. The exhibition  features over fifty works by twenty of Tijuana’s most important contemporary artists, architects, designers, and filmmakers. Their bold, cutting-edge work embodies the powerful creative energy of a city transformed by crosscurrents of globalization, media, and issues of migration and identity.

1) Frank Schwengel, president of the Lions Club of Santa Monica, awards Iao Katagiri with the prestigious 26th Annual Community Recognition Award on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at the Upper Bel Air Bay Club. 2,3) Judy Neveau, a representative from Santa Monica College recognizes Katagiri during the ceremony on Thursday. The Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters. Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities.

Santa Monica Police Department Motor Officer John Gallagher, 44, looks on as Bella Bril, 75, operates the driving simulator during the Wise Senior Service - Center for Healthy Aging - Senior Citizen Driving Program on Wednesday Feb. 28, 2007. The driving simulator is a self assessment tool that reviews the cognitive skills, reaction time, hand-eye coordination and decision making abilities of the driver. If a seniors does not do well, the SMPD does not take away their license but hopes  they realize that they shouldn't be driving. "Bella did an excellent job" officer Gallagher reported. The driving simulator is part of the SMPD's 'We LEADD' program (Westside Law Enforcement Against Drunk Driving).
