Junior Rivera, 20, a Santa Monica College student and a Anthropology club member, carries a skeleton back to class after the Club Row Festival at SMC on Thursday, May 17, 2007. The annual event is designed for many clubs at SMC to recruit members and raise funds. Club participants set up colorful booths across the Library Walkway, where they discussed their activities to prospective members and attract a multitude of students with promises of food and prizes. The event turned out new club devotees and at least a spark of interest in many others.

HOT UNDER THE COLLAR: Welder Rafael Cardenas, of United Storm Water Inc., attaches a metal screen to the storm drain at Ocean and Hollister avenues on Monday. Crews will be affixing screens to all the storm drains throughout Santa Monica. The primary reason for the work was to stop the flow of trash and other waste into Santa Monica Bay. Street runoff is commonly cited as a major source of oceanic pollution off the Southern California coast.

A Santa Monica firefighter surveys the scene after a car drove into the side of the Rack Solid auto parts store at Lincoln Boulevard and Ozone Street on Thursday afternoon. The driver, a 68-year-old woman, was rescued when emergency responders pulled her out through the passenger door. The woman was transported to a local hospital for observation.
