Walk on LA

Braille Institute in Santa Monica

A Low Vision Specialist from the Braille Institute, gives her client, Mildred Fried, 84, a vision test to determine which high-power magnifier is best for her, in Braille Institute's mobile van on Tuesday, Aug 28, 2007 on Main Street. Fried suffors from macular deterioration and reading glasses do not work for her any longer. She needs a high power magnifier which are not found in drugstores. Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), is a deterioration of the macula that results in impaired central vision. ARMD is the number one cause of blindness in those over age 55.
