The Senior Arts Foundation and the City of Santa Monica in partnership with several local agencies present the 3rd Annual Senior & Family Intergenerational Arts Festival: Celebration of Life on at the Santa Monica Senior Center on Saturday, October 9, 2010.
The free festival had an intergenerational focus, providing interactive arts activities for people of all ages. Celebration of Live recognizes older adults’ life-changing experiences in and through the arts, and highlights the creative leadership contributions of adults 50 plus.
The event included diverse arts workshops, demonstrations, performances and exhibits, including a silk screening activity conducted by youth of the Virginia Avenue Park Teen Center, who were commissioned to create three designs that reflect the spirit of the event, and performances by wheelchair dancers Colours in Motion.
Included in the Celebration of Life festival were music, photograph and portrait exhibitions, as well as demonstrations and interactive workshops in dance and movement, painting, calligraphy, laughing-yoga, drumming, mask-making and many other cultural arts activities. One highlight was the Police Activities League’s Youth Photo Exhibit, “Kids with Camera” led by Fabian Lewkowicz and the Portrait Exhibit by artist Kathryn Hall, which reflected the diverse faces and lives of different generations.
