After a two years of closure, Virginia Avenue Park re-opened on Saturday, November 12, 2005. Many people helped paint the community mural of Felix Escobar, by artist Peter Tigler, at the event. This mural was done in a "Paint by Numbers" method.

The Cruz Hernandez Mariachi band from Guadalajara performed at the opening of the Farmers Market at Virginia Avenue Park.
