Mothers and daughters build flower boxes during a Rosie's Girls Mother/ Daughter Workshop at Virginia Avenue Park - City of Santa Monica on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Rosie’s Girls takes its name from Rosie the Riveter, the fictional world war II icon who represented the women who went to work in shipyards and factories to fill shortages while men fought overseas. At Rosie's Girls camps, 6-8th girls receive training in skilled trades and technical fields with lots of arts activities and games, the program supports girls in finding their own strength, power and confidence.

The class is taught by certified UC Cooperative Extension LA County Master Food Preservers, who share their knowledge of jamming, pickling, dehydrating, fermentation, and other food safety techniques, plus food safety guidelines.
