Del Frisco's Grille

Bartenders pour VIP cocktails down an ice sculpture of the Santa Monica Pier during the grand opening celebration of Del Frisco's Grille - Santa Monica on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Del Frisco's Grille Santa Monica is an exciting new eatery that combines the atmosphere of an American bar & grill with upscale entrees, an extensive wine list & hand-crafted cocktails. The Santa Monica location is the first for the company in California and the seventh location in the country.

"Santa Monica is a beautiful beachfront city with a sophisticated dining scene, and we're excited to welcome guests with our genuine hospitality, " Mednansky said. "Our ocean views, local flavors and communal tables and bar provide the perfect ambiance for friends, locals and visitors to gather and enjoy all that the city has to offer. "

Executive Chef Daniel Tiger will feature local ingredients and bold flavors alongside Del Frisco's classic dishes. Some shareable offerings include: Wood Oven-Baked Flatbreads, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and Ahi Tacos. The menu is rounded out with a selection of prime steaks, hearty salads, formidable sandwiches and chef-inspired entrees, as well as locally inspired dishes like the Blistered Shishito Peppers, Grilled Artichoke, West Coast Fish Tacos, and Steamed Brown Bag Fish with Santa Monica Farmers Market vegetables. Late-night revelers can get up early for a decadent brunch at the Grille that includes an out-of-this-world Red Velvet Belgian Waffle as well as Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs with Chorizo Gravy.

The energetic bar at Del Frisco's is a destination in itself, creating a buzz throughout the restaurant and setting the stage for an amazing night out. Craft cocktails feature local ingredients and twists on classics and original cocktails for Del Frisco's. The wine list presents more than 300 wines carefully selected by Del Frisco's Wine Director David O'Day and Sommelier, Adem Sash for the Santa Monica location available by the glass, carafe and bottle. Guests can enjoy a constantly evolving list of California wines such as Caymus, Robert Foley, Checkerboard, Merry Edwards, Sandhi, Corra and Joseph Phelps, as well as wines from around the world. Local craft beers on draft and by the bottle are also available and reflect local breweries like Stone IPA, Long Coast Downtown Brown and Black Market Hefeweisen.

Del Frisco's worked with SF Jones Architects to create a unique dining environment that brings the spirit of the ocean to life with a sprawling patio overlooking Ocean Avenue combined with communal tables and an exhibition kitchen where guests can view the energy and excitement of the culinary staff. Jones and his team have been major players in restaurant innovation in Southern California with the design of renowned restaurants across the city. Together with Del Frisco's, they have created an atmosphere that is stylish and relaxed and offers an unparalleled experience for visitors and locals alike.

Universally Accessible Playground

Children play in the city's first Universally Accessible Playground during the grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at South Beach Park, near the 2900-block of Ocean Front Walk. The playground provides children of all levels of ability to enjoy time at the beach in a way that may not have been possible before.

Accessible playgrounds include barrier-free equipment, increased maneuvering space, and accessible surfacing and paths. Being wheelchair accessible is only one aspect of accessible playground design which also considers the needs of children with physical, cognitive, seeing and hearing disabilities, as well as children with complex developmental behavioral conditions, such as autism. Sensory play elements to touch, feel, and hear, such as sand and water complement swings, slides, and climbing equipment and inspire activity, mobility, and imagination.

Mayor Pam OConnor and members of Santa Monica's Disabilities Commission and Recreation & Parks Commission, will officially open the South Beach Park playground at 10 a.m. Santa Monica school children, whose winning Disability Awareness Month posters have been displayed along the construction fence, will receive fresh copies of their artwork from the Disabilities Commission.

"Inspired by Santa Monica's seaport history, and influenced by the sand and sea, the inclusive, multi-sensory playground takes the form of a ship, its blue and green sails welcoming visitors to the magnificent beaches of Santa Monica," explains playground designer Katherine Spitz of Katherine Spitz Associates, Inc. "The playground celebrates the marine environment with sensory and active play that recall elements of the marine world, providing an accessible place for children of all abilities to play on the beach."

South Beach Park is served by Big Blue Bus line 1, which runs along Main Street. Short term and all day parking is available in Beach Lot 5S (2600 Barnard Way).
